Matt Aden is a talented photographer from San Diego, California. With a keen eye for light, he is best known for his stunning images of sunsets over the ocean.
Originally from colorful Colorado, I moved to San Diego in 2007 after graduating from Colorado State University. Not knowing what I was getting myself into, I was immediately enamored with the sights, sounds and smells that Southern California provided. I was drawn to the beach and realized I had found the one piece of the puzzle that was missing in my life.
Being in and amongst the waves has molded a deeper and more profound meaning of why I was put on this earth. I feel more alive and at home floating in the pounding surf than I ever did before. Being able to capture the moment and share it is what truly makes me happy. Something has changed inside of me in the last 6 years, something that I will never again be able to live without, the Ocean. Currently residing in the lively seaside neighborhood of Pacific Beach, I spend most of my free time moving up and down the coast of San Diego county. Whether it’s nature photography, urban photography, or just taking pictures of flowers, the rich cultural heritage and beautiful landscape in San Diego has offered more than any photographer could ever hope for.
Photography has opened the door to so many new and amazing opportunities that I would have never had otherwise. I am truly blessed to live the life I do and think that my photography shows it.

But not just images of sunsets over the ocean. Matt is a all around coastal photographer. Besides sunsets he shoots nature – especially flowers near the coast – coastal architecture, piers, waves, and surfing (Matt is one of those guys who paddles out in big surf with fins and a camera instead of a board). It’s free to browse his galleries. Whether you like pictures of flowers, pictures of surf, or pictures of beautiful sunsets, if you love the coast you will definitely enjoy Matt’s work.
On a technical note, Matt produces his captivating coastal images without photoshop. All those incredible skies, beautiful refections, and brilliant sunsets really happened; nothing is ever “photoshopped in”. All the striking illumination that characterizes Matt’s work is natural, accomplished with extremely skillful management of exposure, and many, many days and hours chasing the light.
